Bitcoin and Ethereum slide to close June — down about 40% from a year ago

Bitcoin opened at $60,148.50 on Tuesday, June 30, up 1.1% from the prior day, and Ethereum opened at $1,610.48, up 2.6%. But both gave up their gains through the morning, with Ethereum sliding to about $1,562 by mid-morning Eastern time.

The starker picture was the year-over-year comparison. Measured against the same point in 2025, Bitcoin's opening price was down 44.5% and Ethereum's 35.6% — a blunt illustration of how deep 2026's drawdown had cut as the month drew to a close.

With sentiment still fragile, the market limped into month-end awaiting a catalyst.
