Ethereum gets a new nonprofit built to be Wall Street's front door

Ethereum Institutional launched July 1 as a neutral point of contact for banks and asset managers, backed by BitMine, SharpLink and co-founder Joe Lubin.
A new independent nonprofit, Ethereum Institutional, launched on July 1 with a single goal: give banks, asset managers and other enterprises a neutral front door into the Ethereum ecosystem as they evaluate the chain for tokenization, stablecoins and other financial applications.
The organization is led by David Walsh, Marius Smith and Matthew Dawson, with anchor funding from BitMine Immersion Technologies (NYSE: BMNR), SharpLink (NASDAQ: SBET) and Ethereum co-founder Joe Lubin, alongside dozens of individual and institutional contributors.
It arrives with scale already in place. The team says it has built more than 500 institutional relationships spanning Tier-1 banks, top-tier asset managers, sovereign institutions, custodians and market infrastructure providers. Its Institutional Ethereum Forum has convened over 150 senior executives and heads of digital assets from institutions representing roughly $250 trillion in combined assets under management.
The nonprofit will operate across five areas from day one: institutional education and engagement, institutional intelligence, ETH and ecosystem marketing, standards and best practices, and institutional events.
The launch lands just over a week after the Ethereum Foundation cut 20% of its staff — a striking juxtaposition, with the ecosystem's core steward shrinking as a new institution-facing body scales up.
